Ooc: Yay meerkats!
Ic: Damien had been travelling for so long now. His ribs were bulging from his golden coat and his fur was losing its luster. He was hungry from the months (or was it years?) of his journey, for he had found little to eat. Damien ascended a rise, wary of predators, and stared around. This territory, it is beautiful! he thought with happiness. Perhaps he had indeed found a new home.
He crept forwards, eager to explore the new turf, when a sudden scent reached his nostrils. The scent of a female. Someone's already living here, and it smells like she's alone, he thought excitedly. The scent gave him hope, for perhaps he now had a chance of survival. A meerkat cannot live on its own for very long. Damien had been alone, but he had been safe because he was travelling, always moving. Perhaps I've found a new home at last!
Damien made his way under a scraggly bush. The dry season was coming and prey was getting a little harder to come by. He dug around in the sand, smelling a scorpion. Damien loved scorpions, personally. He finally dug the angry creature from its home. He snapped it up in three bites, sting and all. Damien felt better immediately. He hadn't eaten a proper meal in four days, and he had lost a great deal of weight. All he had managed to find were ants and beetles.
He climbed up the large bush, struggling to pull himself up into its top branches. He could see for a long ways, and no predators were in sight. Ha! Perhaps this is my lucky day, he thought. He had found substantial prey, a flourishing territory, a lack of predators, and had caught the scent of the female that lived here all in minutes. Now! If only my luck can hold out for a while! Damien scanned the horizen for a sign of the other meerkat.
